The same forecast for bad weather that caused the February event to be cancelled because of “safety concerns” was back for this weekend. Even though there was rain in the forecast, rain all around the city, and rain at times on the balloon field, a decision was made to tether the balloons every night anyway.
In all honesty, they were able to get off three days of balloon tethers, but not without all the controversy that follows Midflo around. Thursday night the skies opened up, and the field got flooded. Friday night tethers ended early due to high winds that blew the balloons down. Communication to the ticket holders about those particular evening's plans, and then what to do with their tickets for the rest of the weekend, was very limited if not non-existent.
Passengers were promised tether rides that were to be a "few minutes" long, and they were promised that they would be able see downtown as the tether ride was supposed to go above the treeline. This did not happen as the balloons only went up about 50-75’ and stayed up for only 1-2 minutes before they came down.
The VIP section was a free-for-all, filled with non-VIP’s who wandered in and just sat down, with barely a sip of the champagne that they were promised. There were long lines formed for balloon rides as the ticket sellers were scanning tickets way before they were ever used, eliminating any opportunity for a refund.
Despite the glowing faces and pretty pictures on Facebook, there were many disgruntled and unhappy people who felt taken advantage of.
And lastly, Midflo and his staff are once again giving lip-service to those who want refunds. They are given an email address they don’t answer and a phone number that doesn’t work. Anyone who complained on his Facebook page was blocked, and their complaint deleted.
